As a leader in our industry Burnside Services, Inc. has been using the Global Positioning System (GPS) for the layout and grading of projects. This technology for the construction industry allows for faster job cycles, reduced rework, and lower operating costs. GPS is a worldwide radio-navigation system formed from a constellation of 24 satellites and their ground stations. GPS uses these “man-made stars” as reference points to calculate positions accurate to a matter of centimeters with the advanced forms of GPS which we are currently utilizing.
Our foremen are using a GPS Data Collector (rover system) to layout and stake projects. The rover system gives our foremen real-time control of their position, slope, and grade everywhere on the site. This rover system allows our foremen the flexibility to stake anything on a project at any time without depending on the schedule of a surveyor. Stakes are commonly wiped out by equipment, weather, vandals, etc. Our foremen are also less dependent on the amount of stakes given as a reference by surveyors than in the past which potentially can be a substantial savings to a client. The GPS Machine Control Systems (automatic system), which is set up in our dozers, has proven to grade projects faster and minimize regrading. It typically takes only one pass with a GPS dozer to put an area to grade. The automatic system also allows our dozer operators the same capabilities as our foremen with the same real-time control of their position, slope, and grade everywhere on the site. Quality control is managed with ease when using GPS on a job site. The typical required tolerance for our projects vertically and horizontally is one-tenth of a foot or basically the size of a golf ball. We easily meet or exceed this tolerance with our advanced GPS mounted equipment
The most important factor when designing a new athletic field is creating a field that meets the clients needs and exceeds their expectations. Burnside Services Athletic Field Construction takes into account the clients budget, level of play, amount of play, maintenance capabilities, water availability, drainage and finally aesthetics. It is important to design a field that not only looks great, but plays great and will last for years to come with proper maintenance. Burnside Services, Inc. takes a great deal of pride in being able to take an athletic field that is unplayable, unsafe, and unattractive and turning it into something beautiful. Our experienced staff works very closely with the client to select a renovation process and schedule to give them a finished product that exceeds their expectations. The most important factors in sports turf are a stable surface and durable turf. Our focus is on balancing the client’s needs and expectations with their budget to provide a safe surface that performs in a variety of conditions and will last for years. We analyze soil properties, water availability, maintenance capabilities and other issues to determine the appropriate drainage, turf variety, soil amendments, and irrigation components. Finally, we use the industries most accurate equipment and personnel with an eye for detail to deliver a quality field installation.
No matter the location or size of the project, we have the resources and personnel to complete the scope on time, within budget and above all else, to a level of quality that exceeds expectations. In order to meet these expectations and to stay competitive, existing golf courses must invest in restoring new life to their course. Our resume provides Architects and Owners with the confidence to place the future of their golf course in the hands of a well-respected and reliable renovation contractor.
This process stabilizes the soil and has been found to be the best thing for weed seed & diseases. Methyl bromide (MB) has been the predominant broad-spectrum soil fumigant for controlling pests prior to turfgrass installation on golf courses, sports fields, and sod farms. Pest problems controlled with MB include weeds, diseases and plant parasitic nematodes, however, MB fumigation is primarily used to eliminate weeds and to insure genetic purity of turfgrasses. In the U.S., MB is used on newly constructed and reconstructed golf course greens, and sometimes on tees and fairways.
